Since October 2000, Raices has been opening its doors to anyone who has felt the traditional beat and urge to discover their inner “Gaucho or China”On Saturday April 12th 2008, we came together once again at the Uruguayan Social & Sporting Club of Sydney, Australia with our families and friends in the presence of our distinguished guests Pedro Colombi, the Consulate of Argentina and world renounced Folkloric Professors Daniel Uribe, Sergio Perez and Lorena Allende.
This special night had over 400 fans applauding the efforts of the group which marked the first and only folkloric dancing school outside of Argentina that is recognized by Las Heras Dance Institute.
Raices Director and newly crowned Teacher Eduardo Menendez said “…It makes me so proud to see a dream come to life and have so many Australian born kids who will carry our heritage forward”
On this evening we also celebrated the graduation of Roxana Sposito & Solange Olivera, the first students of our school who showcased the latest genres coming from Uruguay & Argentina.
Nomination
On March 6, RAICES Group Director, Eduardo Menendez, will attend NSW Parliament House to receive a nomination for his volunteer work in the Argentinean and Uruguayan community.The Argentinean Consulate representative Mr. Pedro Colombi will also attend supporting this nomination.
April 12, Saturday Spectacular
On April 12, RAICES Group together with the Argentinean teachers will perform a tango and folklore show at the Uruguayan Club for the viewing public.2nd Year in the School
Nuestras Raices folk dance school will commence its second year of studies on 1st April 2008.First and second year students will take classes at the Uruguayan Club on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 pm.
