Welcome to the RAICES website

RAICES Argentinean and Uruguayan Folk Dance Group is a non-profit organization registered with the Department of Fair Trading which begun activities in 2000. We currently have adults, young people and children in the group. Our activities include performing the Argentinean and Uruguayan dances at community events organized by various councils in Sydney, clubs, multicultural events, private celebrations, etc. They are a combination of folk dances, drums, foot work and "boleadoras" show.

Uruguay: Uruguay has an impressive legacy of artistic and literary traditions, especially for its small size. The contribution of its alternating conquerors and diverse immigrants has resulted in native traditions that integrate this diversity. Uruguay has centuries old remains, fortresses of the colonial era. Its cities have a rich architectural heritage and an impressive number of writers, artists, and musicians.

Argentina :The culture of Argentina is as varied as the country's geography and mix of ethnic groups. Modern Argentine culture has been largely influenced by European immigration although there are also some Amerindian and African influences, particularly in the fields of music and art. Buenos Aires and other cities show a mixture of architectural styles imported from Europe but in the case of older settlements, and of older preserved neighbourhoods within past.
